Successful inaugural event for the Kipp Popert World Invitational at London Golf Club
What a day to remember. On Monday 11 May, London Golf Club was proud to host the inaugural Kipp Popert World Invitational – an extraordinary celebration of inclusive golf that brought the very best disability golf to our doorstep.
Set up by World No. 1 disability golfer Kipp Popert and charity Variety Golf, the event featured 18 teams, each made up of three amateur golfers paired with a world-leading G4D (Golf for the Disabled) player. Competitors travelled from nine countries, including Cameroon, South Africa, the USA, Canada, Spain and Ireland – a remarkable reflection of how far disability golf has come.
The day began with a masterclass on the driving range, led by expert coaches and G4D professionals. Throughout the morning, 20 disabled children also received dedicated golf lessons on the range, a reminder that events like this are about far more than the competition itself.
Kipp raised £140,000 to fund appearance fees for elite adaptive players, ensuring that each G4D competitor received £3,000 to support their travel, preparation and careers – treating them as the professionals they are.
Following the team competition, players and guests gathered for a celebratory lunch, where golfing legend Colin Montgomerie presented prizes and took part in a Q&A. Kipp himself put it best:
Following the team competition, players and guests gathered for a celebratory lunch, where golfing legend Colin Montgomerie presented prizes and took part in a Q&A. Kipp himself put it best: “Bringing together world-class G4D golfers, amateurs and young disabled players makes this event incredibly special. It shows what golf can be at its very best.” We could not agree more. It was one of the most memorable days in the club’s history and we are incredibly proud to have been part of it.”
